Index Deviations

When the count is high enough, the mathematically correct play changes. These are the only deviations worth learning.

Order of operations

  1. Perfect basic strategy first — this is non-negotiable
  2. Learn to count accurately
  3. Then add index deviations — in this order below

Insurance — The Most Valuable

Take Insurance when TC ≥ +3

Insurance pays 2:1 if dealer has blackjack. At TC +3, you have over 33% of remaining cards being 10-value — meaning insurance is mathematically +EV. This is the single most valuable index play.
